Are You Paying Taxes Correctly as an Expat in Vietnam?
Understanding your tax obligations in Vietnam can be tricky, especially when it comes to determining whether you’re a tax resident or non-tax resident. Here’s a quick breakdown to help you:
Who is a Tax Resident?
- Lived in Vietnam for 183 days or more in a calendar year or within 12 consecutive months starting from your first date of residence.
- Have a place of habitual residence in Vietnam.
If you meet either condition, you’re a tax resident. If not, you’re a non-tax resident.
What Income is Taxed?
- Tax Residents: All income earned inside and outside Vietnam, no matter where it’s paid.
- Tax Non-Residents: Only income earned inside Vietnam, regardless of payment location.
Knowing your status can help you stay compliant and avoid unnecessary penalties!
