Property Tycoon Truong My Lan Defends $4.5 Billion Transfers Amid Embezzlement Allegations
Truong My Lan, a prominent Vietnamese property tycoon, claimed in court that the $4.5 billion transferred overseas was her personal money, not the funds of Saigon Commercial Bank (SCB). She explained that between 2012 and 2022, she borrowed $3 billion from friends and used $1.5 billion to repay them, processing these transfers through SCB.
This defense contradicts previous statements from SCB’s former CEO, who asserted that the funds were embezzled. As a result, Lan is currently facing charges of illegal money movement and fraudulent appropriation of assets.
